С одной стороны Нелетающие Драконы версии 1.0 - это действительно "Worms". Смотрим хотя бы карту Трора:
И видим в левой части (то есть на севере, карта повернута) над пиктограммой такого дракона: "Far to the North are the Grey Mountains & the Whithered Heath whence come the
Great Worms".
С другой стороны, "Great Worms" это не "Were-worms", а в Хоббите ещё говорится такое:

Так что в книге гоблины всё же шли под горами по имевшимся ранее туннелям. Ну а в фильме туннели были прокопаны по ходу.
