Chapter 26 ~ "The Evenstar"

PB: This is a miniature?
PJ: Yeah, this is a miniature. It´s a model of Rivendell about 6 foot long.
PB: It´s a very early image that you wanted, isn´t it?
PJ: Yeah.
PB: This image Peter had envisaged and it was really wonderful to see it actually happen.
FW: Hm. Yeah.
PJ: I wanted to shoot this scene really close, there’s a lot of close-ups. I wanted it to be just about their eyes and their hands and, I just wanted to somehow have the camera kind of being incredibly intimate with the way that they´re, they´re relying to each other.
PB: The concept of the Evenstar as a physical object was, uhm, was one that we found again buried in the end of the book, at the end of “Return of the King” uhm, and we felt that was -
PJ: Her name is Arwen Evenstar.
PB: Her name is Arwen Evenstar, and the concept that there is such a thing as the Evenstar - in fact I think we thought about it and then we realized that there was one -
FW: She gives it to Frodo.
PB: She gives it to Frodo at the end, yeah, but it becomes more and more important really, it’s a thing about her that tells -
PJ: Well we´re using it as a symbol of her mortality, didn´t we? Or -
PB: Hm. Symbol of her mortality and a symbol of what she´s giving to him, and what he carries with him.
PJ: And needless to say it’s not the last we see of the Evenstar in the second and third movie, ahm, the Evenstar itself that Aragorn carries around his neck is used in different ways.
