. Saw a screening of the hobbit tonight in hollywood.
It was amazing! The best CGI i probably have ever
seen. If you are a die hard fan of the LOTR films
then you will not be let down. A fun ride, lots of
action and story, beautiful cinematography and
music.
No spoilers from me. Enjoy the film!
The friend I took is a bigger fan than me and he
said he liked them just as much or more than the
originals.

I saw the film with the National Board of Review.
Due to their guidelines, I'm not allowed to publish
any official reviews until the film is released.
However, there's no rule against me just talking on
a message board.
Visually, the film is stunning, particularly in 3D 48
fps. Completely engrossing and hardly a dull
moment. There's a good amount of light hearted
humor, especially from the dwarves, so the tone
isn't too gloomy. The action sequences are
thrilling, particularly an opening sequence where
Smaug the dragon destroys a town. There's also a
stimulating, grand scale battle between a few stone
giants that the dwarves and hobbit literally get
caught between. The ending can feel a bit out of
the blue if you aren't familiar with the other films.
Overall though, an incredible experience.
I'll admit I was a bad critic and didn't rewatch the
original trilogy before seeing this one, so they
aren't fresh in my mind. As far I can remember, I
believe this was better than Fellowship and TT.
However, let it be known I didn't consider either of
those films to be particularly fantastic. They were
great, but they didn't capture me the way this one
did.
If you're a die hard fan, I highly doubt you'll be
disappointed in The Hobbit. The only way I can see
fans of LOTR being disappointed is if they are
expecting it to be as serious as the original trilogy.
The Hobbit has lots and lots of humor in it, to the
point where you can even argue it's making fun of
itself. But there are plenty of intense moments of
violent battle to balance it out.
My review will be published on
FestivalOfFilms.com the day The Hobbit is
released. I'd love to publish it earlier, but the
guidelines of the group I'm with do not allow for it.
